Synopsis:     Dr. Klingsheim has extensive hands-on experience as an investor, as a director, as an executive, as an entrepreneur, and as a researcher. Prior to founding EarlyWin, he has been instrumental in the formation, fundraising, and business development for multiple start-up companies.  Dr. Klingsheim has also served as an executive with Telenor and as a Director for several companies and incubators.

10/1997-2/2002: Co-founder and Chairman of the Board, Clustra Systems Inc., Oakland CA, with subsidiaries in Trondheim and in London. Founded the company in 1997 as a spin-out from NTNU and Telenor (the Norwegian telephone company). Served as its Chief Executive Officer and built the company from 13 engineers in Trondheim to 100+ employees worldwide with corporate headquarters in Oakland, California. Raised US$ 35million in funding from leading venture capital groups in USA and strategic investors in Europe. Clustra's patented zero-downtime database-technology offered zero-downtime functionality for telecommunications, e-business, banking and other realtime7*24 applications. Awarded an "O-visa" from the U.S. Department of Justice. Sold the company to Sun Microsystems in February 2002.

5/1995-9/1997: Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Norcom Networks Corporation in  Reston VA. Joined the company at it’s inception in Seattle WA. Responsible for the acquisition, integration, and operation of all technical infrastructure to provide fully integrated wireless data solutions for end-users in the transportation markets, based on real-time satellite communications with ubiquitous coverage throughout North America. Norcom was subsequently merged with Wireless Matrix Corporation in Canada and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

4/1992-5/1995: Vice President, Telenor and General Manager, Telenor Research, Oslo, Norway. Responsible for all research activities in the Telenor Group, and head of Telenor Research with a staff of ~300. Carried out major reorganization to refocus from academic research to business development, concurrently with the transition of Telenor from a government agency ("PTT") to a limited company in a competitive marketplace.

5/1989-3/1992: Director of Research, SINTEF DELAB. Responsible for commercial contract research in the fields of solid state electronics, optical systems, and electronics design, in close collaboration with faculty and staff at NTH, University of Trondheim.

6/1990: Completed postgraduate studies at NTH, earning a Dr.Ing. (~PhD) degree.

12/1988-4/1989: Visiting Scientist (by invitation), University of Southwestern Louisiana, USA. Research in design theory at the Center for Advanced Computer Studies (with grant from the Norwegian Research Council).

9/1985-12/1988: Research Scientist, SINTEF DELAB. Project leader and contributor in contract research for Norwegian and international customers, focusing on design and test of electronic systems.

10/1983-8/1985: Manager/Project Leader, software product development, GE Calma, TX USA. Providing commercial CAE software systems for customers world wide.

5/1983: Completed undergraduate work at NTH, earning a Siv.Ing. (~MsEE ) degree.

Chaired NTVA task force in 1993 to promote a more independent status of the Norwegian Institute of Technology than was proposed by the Norwegian Minister of Church, Education, and Research; co-authored NTVA report 4-94 "The Norwegian Institute of Technology and the New Act on Higher Education".
